Burning is the short epic of Tiresias, an old blind prophet with woman boobs, wandering around the streets of a city besieged by lawyers, bankers, waste and rats. His loyal guide dog besides him, Tiresias is the tragic parody of the old man with two sexes.The Sibyl of Agua has drowned, her rotting body floats still on the waves that wash the coasts of the Isle of Dogs. Like Michelangelo’s Sybil, precariously keeping her balance on a small white pedestal, this Ophelia, sitting in an armchair and suffocated by a plastic bag, appears like a whale dying on a beach. In Thunder, it’s the Sybil of the Final Judgement that howls the last prophecy. Dehydrated and in pain from an incurable headache, she’s waiting for the purifying water of that Dies Irae blasted by the last trumpet that will gather the souls in front of God’s throne. But this Sybil, thin and melancholy, won’t wait for the judgement of the vengeful God: she will announce, reflected in the watery eyes of her dog, the advent of a god-man, without Paradise or Hell.
